Where are the 619 players playing in the Euro which begins this Friday evening in Rome? In England for many, and in Chelsea in particular …
The Premier League is by far the most represented championship at the Euro. Among the 619 players engaged in the competition, 17.29% play in the English elite of the round ball, that is to say 107 footballers. They are 12.92% (80 players) to play in Serie A, 10.02% (62 players) in the Bundesliga, 6.95% (43 players) in Ligue 1 and 5.82% (36 players) in La Liga.
If we look more specifically at the clubs, all fresh winner of the Champions League – Chelsea – picks up the timpani, with 17 Blues spread across the 24 aligned nations. Unhappy finalist of the C1, Manchester City follows closely with 15 representatives involved, just ahead of the Bayern and its 14 players. Then come the Juventus (12) and Dynamo Kiev (11).
Lille still dominates Paris
And the L1 in all this? The PSG, dethroned by the Losc this season, once again bows before the northern champion, settling for six Euro players (the Blues Presnel Kimpembe and Kylian Mbappé, the Italians Alessandro Florenzi and Marco Verratti, the Portuguese Danilo Pereira and the Spaniard Pablo Sarabia ) when the Mastiffs have seven (the Turks Zeki Celik, Yusuf Yazici, Burak Yilmaz, the Portuguese José Fonte and Renato Sanches, the French Mike Maignan and the Croatian Domagoj Bradaric).
