The City of Lille had seen wide, for the transformation of boulevard Carnot : from fall 2022 to spring 2024, for a rendering that has nothing to do with the old configuration. It is possible to realize the scale of the project at the beginning of December 2023, because the major part of this key axis at the entrance to Old Lille is accessible again.
In fact, it is a modernized boulevardwhich does giving pride of place to pedestrians and cyclistswhich reopened to traffic on Friday, December 1 in the morning.
The cycle path separated from the road by a border
A wide two-way cycle path et colored red now runs along the roadway (3 m wide and 1 km long). It is secured by a border which separates it from the road, and which will accommodate, we guess, a proportion of the trees that the Town Hall had promised. In total, 58 trees will green this boulevard, halfway between Old Lille and Lille-Flandres station.
There is only one left traffic lane for cars in each direction.
It’s not over: a 3rd and final phase of development has begun, this time between rue des Arts and rue des Bons-Enfants, at the back of the Lille Opera. The redesigned Boulevard Carnot, to be more “peaceful”, should display its final appearance in March 2024.
