According to Rinta Bružēvica, a representative of the concert organizers VISA “Latvijas Koncerti”, Johann Sebastian Bach’s “Goldberg Variations” is like meditation – “within an hour and a half the boundaries between the listener, the performer and the music disappear, because Bach’s divine games take over everyone”.

This piece is considered a huge challenge for both the performer and the listener. Bach, who had avoided variations in his work, in his adult years, virtuously managing the counterpoint, created a completely innovative cycle – a real encyclopedia of variations. This music was written at the court of the Russian ambassador in Dresden to entertain Count Herman Karl von Kaiserling. The envoy had commissioned a Baham piece in various characters for his court harpsichordist Johann Gottlieb Goldberg to entertain him for nightly entertainment.

The concert will feature music by Reinis Zariņš, who is one of Latvia’s most notable talents, a brilliant soloist and a skilled chamber musician, author of conceptual inter-art projects. Reinis began playing the piano at the age of seven, and made his debut as a soloist with the orchestra at the age of ten, later winning awards at eleven international pianist competitions. Reinis is a three-time winner of the Latvian Grand Music Prize (2011, 2013, 2015).

Reinis Zariņš has participated in many prestigious festivals: the Lucerne Festival, the Kremerata Baltica Festival, the Bath, Norfolk and Nova Scotia International Music Festivals, the Master Works and the Holland Music Sessions. He has played in the world’s best concert halls – the “Concertgebouw” in Amsterdam, the Veil Hall in the Carnegie Center in New York, the Vigmore Hall in London, the Glazunov Hall in St. Petersburg, and the Tchaikovsky Hall in Moscow. He has played in excellent harmony with conductors Andris Pogs, Atvars Lakstīgals, Ainārs Rubiķis, Pierre Boulez, Peter Etves, Pavlo Erasas-Casado, Juhas Kangas, Diego Mason, as well as with the Moscow Virtuosos, Moscow State Chamber Orchestra, “Kremerata Baltics”, Ostrobothnia Baltic for the best Latvian orchestras.

The pianist has recorded critically acclaimed discs: studio albums “Circus & Magic”, “Jāzeps Vītols – Works for solo piano”, as well as a concert recording with Beethoven’s “Hammerklavier” and Schubert’s opuses in Vigmore Hall, London. In 2017, albums with Wolfgang Dārziņš Piano Concerto and Lūcija Garūta’s piano music were released.

Tickets for the concerts of the Autumn Chamber Music Festival can be purchased at the box offices of “Biļešu paradīze”, as well as on the Internet.
