At the end of May, jazz opens again in Vienna

Porgy & Bess. 90 to 100 visitors per evening are admitted, and there are still live streams.

We’ll play anyway! “Said funk trombonist Fred Wesley on March 10th at Porgy & Bess: It was supposed to be the last concert for the audience in the internationally renowned Vienna jazz club. Well, with the first relaxation of the regulations for cultural life scheduled for the end of May, the public is allowed back in: 100 people are allowed, Porgy boss Christoph Huber wants to admit 90 to be able to comply with the distance rules. All concerts will continue to be streamed live, motto: “The show must go on (line)”.

It starts on May 30 with a solo evening by Wolfgang Muthspiel, on May 31 the Viennese post-rock duo Mela plays, on June 3 Lukas König shows his show “Messing”, on June 4 Harry Sokal shows his project “Groove “.

There are supposed to be two to three concerts a week throughout the summer, and from July 1st, 250 visitors are expected to be able to come in the evening. Huber wants to put together a small festival for the end of August, so to speak as a replacement for the canceled Jazzfest Saalfelden, which Huber used to be.

Vienna’s oldest jazz cellar will soon be live again: The Jazzland under the Ruprechtskirche begins on May 29th with Margie’s Wild Cats, on the 30th Elly Wright sings. It is closed at Pentecost for two days, then it continues in the usual density until July 16. B. with the Mojo Blues Band (3rd / 4th June), the Barrelhouse Jazz Band (13th June) or Jim Rotondi and Harry Sokal (24th / 25th June). (tk)
