At the end of her solitary life, she departed, and the world’s most depressed elephant prostrated

An elephant dubbed the world’s ‘saddest elephant’ has collapsed at a zoo in the Philippines. Mali, an elephant, has been living in the Manila Zoo for the past four decades. Mali was also the main attraction here. However, for the past few years, activists have been raising the demand that this elephant should be moved from here.

Activists said she was going through extreme loneliness. Sir Paul McCartney is one of them. Paul McCartney has also asked the authorities to move Mali to an elephant sanctuary. However, it did not happen.

Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna revealed the information about Mali’s death in a Facebook video on Tuesday. The mayor added that his visit to the zoo to see Mali is one of his happiest childhood memories.

Last Friday, Mali was constantly rubbing her trunk against the wall. The zoo’s chief veterinarian, Heinrich Patrick Peña-Domingo, said it could be due to pain. By Tuesday morning, Mali’s situation worsened. Doctors tried to save her life but failed. An autopsy revealed cancer in some of her organs and a blockage in her heart.

Mali’s full name is Vishwa Mali. She was given to Imelda Marcos, the first lady of the Philippines, by the Sri Lankan government in 1981. Anna was only 11 months old. The Manila Zoo also had another elephant, Shiva, who arrived here in 1977. However, Siva bowed out in 1990. Since then, Mali has been the only elephant in the zoo.

Activists have repeatedly called for Mali’s release from here. However, it did not happen. Following Mali’s death, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) said, “One of the world’s saddest elephants has died. Rest in peace Mali, you deserved better.”
