During the discussion table “Renew Policies for a New Development Course in Mexico” of THE UNIVERSAL, academics moderated by Dr. Sergio García Ramírez, researcher at the UNAM Legal Research Institute, talked about the different crises that the country is going through and how it can attack them in a context of the pandemic of Covid-19.
In the dialogue, which addressed the content of the study of the same name, the academics synthesized said document, however they pointed out that the aforementioned problems have the possibility of turning into crises if they are not addressed.
Clara Jusidman, an economist and human rights defender, pointed out that one of the main issues to be discussed is health, due to the low budget it receives and its lack of universality.
As an important point to stop the deterioration that afflicts it, he pointed out that the system should be strengthened with more vaccines, medicines and personnel.
“The idea is that it can be financed with resources from the general budget,” he explained.
For his part, the also economist, Rolando Cordera, emphasized that health is concerned, social policy and employment, as the three axes to constitute a new course for the country.
Finally, Enrique Provencio criticized that although Mexico has entered a process of economic recovery, it seems that there is no intention to review the development strategies that were proposed before the crisis by Covid-19.
Given this, he called for a dialogue on them, since the recovery is uncertain and uneven between regions of the country.
“Today, in many ways, we lack an explicit development strategy, what was presented as the national development plan in 2019 was insufficient already then, I think, and it is more insufficient now, after this shock of the pandemic crisis.” , he pointed.
