There is even a service for “injured” in absolute urgency as at the CHU Pellegrin in Bordeaux. Well, there, the urgency is quite relative. “When someone brings me a blanket, it becomes the priority because you have to act as quickly as possible to bring it back to its owner”, smiles
Fabienne Mogue in the middle of his operating room. This is what this Bordeaux woman has logically nicknamed her backroom within
its Doll Clinic. Twenty-three years that she has operated dolls, soft toys, soft toys or automatons. In all, it restores between 300 and 400 pieces per year.
“This idea of bringing objects back to life has always been the common thread of my life, from my childhood until now,” explains the trained seamstress. Initially, it was clients who came to see me to ask for some repairs and then the vocation really came when I attended the Museum of automatons and reduced models of La Rochelle. “ It was there on July 2, 1998 that she opened her first store before quickly moving to Bordeaux. She only has a few basic techniques. Fabienne Mogue is trained on the job, she learns it every day, even today with for example her training in 3D to repair her dolls and other soft toys.
Even the dolls have had the right to their Covid effect
In 2021, they are coming from everywhere. From Canada, Switzerland, Spain, Belgium in particular. It must be said that according to the hostess, there are only five in France to practice this type of restoration. Sewing, painting, etc., the Bordelaise does everything from A to Z. She even offers personalized costumes. “I accept everything, it’s my challenge to succeed in giving them a second life. I work on all subjects and frankly, our profession is evolving all the time with more and more patents. You have to be up to date ”, specifies the one who obtained the title of master craftsman.
And for two years, it is not the work which misses. As surprising as it may seem, the Covid-19 pandemic also had consequences for Fabienne Mogue:
People stayed at home for weeks, they tidied up and suddenly, an old blanket fell from the cupboard or they found a family doll at the bottom of a box. Suddenly, I had a lot of requests out of the first confinement in particular and since then, it has not stopped. There, with Christmas, I’m underwater! “
Because Fabienne Mogue does not only do catering. In her operating room, she creates her own dolls “I do everything, there are unique pieces but also the classic little blanket, little mice, cats…”, she recalls. The prices vary greatly depending on the difficulty of making and the working time, they range from 15 to 300 euros at the doll clinic.
