From June 30 to July 3, concerts of the Early Music Festival will take place in Riga and Rundāle, where masterpieces of Renaissance sacred music, the most beautiful Baroque opera arias, Italian and German Baroque masterpieces will be performed.

As “Delfi” informs the organizers of the festival from VSIA “Latvijas Koncerti”, the listeners are waiting for a meeting with the Latvian Radio Choir and conductor Kaspars Putniņš, with the State Chamber Orchestra “Sinfonietta Riga“, which will be conducted by Andris Veismanis, with the baroque orchestra” Collegium Musicum Riga “and conductor Māris Kupčs, as well as with brilliant soloists – singer Elīna Šimka, violinist Daniils Bulajevs and Estonian kantele virtuoso Anna-Liisa Eller from the most beautiful fairy tales of the famous Danish fairy tale master Hans Christian Andersen – “Forest Swans”.
Early Music Festival on June 30 at Riga St. Peter’s Church will open Latvian Radio Choir conducted by Kaspars Putniņš. “In the concert we will play the motets of the great Renaissance Giovanni Perluigi da Palestrina and Orlande de Lassus, written with the lyrics of Solomon’s” High Song “or” Song of Songs. “The Song of Songs of the Old Testament has inspired countless musicians, many consider it universal in the history of mankind, “says Kaspars Putniņš.
The special guest at the concert of the Early Music Festival will be the Estonian canteen virtuoso – Anna-Liisa Ellere. Alongside the originals of Palestrina and De Lassus motets, the concert will feature improvisations by Anna-Liisa and diminutions of Palestrina motets written by the outstanding 16th century cornet virtuoso and composer Giovanni Bassano. The concert starts at 8 p.m.
On July 1, the Small Guild will feature the most beautiful baroque opera arias performed by clear soprano Elīna Šimkus, baroque orchestra “Collegium Musicum Riga” and conductor Māris Kupčs. The program includes compositions by Johann Christian Bach and Johann Adolf Hase. The concert starts at 8 p.m.
July 3 at 1 p.m. Rundāle Castle In the garden, young listeners are waiting for a musical journey in Hans Christian Andersen ‘s fairy tale “Forest Swans”. It captivates with the story of good and evil, with the conviction that evil can only be overcome with courage, perseverance and love. There will be more than one vivid image in the musical performance, but the main means of expression will be the music of the great greats of the past Monteverdi, Vivaldi, Bach and Handel. Jolanta Strikaite-Lapiņa, Dināra Rudāne, Atis Ieviņš, Jānis Strazdiņš, students of Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music, students of Riga School of Choreography and Riga Dome Choir School, as well as an instrumental group led by Pēteris Vaickovskis will take part in the performance. Narrator – musicologist Karina Bērziņa.
On July 3, at 7 pm, Italian and German Baroque masterpieces will be played in the Golden Hall of Rundāle Castle. The concert will feature a meeting with virtuoso violinist Dmitrijs Sinkovskis and the outstanding harpsichordist Ieva Saliete. Works by Johann Sebastian Bach, Heinrich Ignac, Georg Friedrich Handel and others will be performed.
At the end of the Early Music Festival on July 3 at 10 pm in the garden of Rundāle Castle, Antonio Vivaldi’s violin concert cycle “Seasons” will traditionally be performed, which has experienced countless recordings and interpretations all over the world, thus “Seasons” is probably one of the most popular classical music opuses. You can enjoy the mood of the seasons performed by “Sinfonietta Rīga”, conductor Andris Veismans and violinist Daniils Bulajevs.
The concert will feature works by Johann Christian Bach, Christoph Wilibald Gluck, Jean-Baptiste Lullie, Jean-Philippe Ramo and Antonio Vivaldi.
At the concerts of the Early Music Festival, visitors will be required to present an interoperable vaccination or Covid-19 disease certificate, as well as an identity document.
