Relatives say that Trentino died of old age in his home in the south of France, where he spent the last moments of his life with his family.
Jean Louis Trentinan was born on December 11, 1930; after World War II he studied acting in Paris. In 1951, he made his debut on the theater stage, but gained more attention with his film roles.
In 1956, director Rouge Vadim’s film “And God Created a Woman” was a huge success, starring Trentino alongside rising film star Britz Bardo.
He received world fame for his film The Man and the Woman (1966) by director Claude Leluuch, who won the Golden Palm branch of the Cannes Film Festival and a number of other awards.
Trentinan has collaborated with the most outstanding European film directors: Claude Leluuch, Bernardo Bertolucci, Claude Chebrola, François Trypho, Christoph Keslovsky, Michael Hahnek, etc.
Trentignan’s passion was motorsports, as he had several famous motorists.
Trentinan was married three times, and he had three children with his second wife, Nadin: a son, Wensan, and a daughter, Polina.
Unfortunately, the fate of both daughters was tragic: Polina died as an infant, but her eldest daughter, Mary, who became a popular actress, died at the age of 41 when she was severely beaten by her partner, French musician Bertrand Kant.
It happened in 2003 in Lithuania, where Marija had come to film. A French court sentenced him to eight years in prison, but he was released in Canton four years later.
Trentiņan admitted that he had survived his daughter’s untimely death. He stopped filming for a long time, but was persuaded by the Austrian film director Michael Hahnke to play one of the main roles in the 2012 film Amour.
The film won the Golden Palm Award at the Cannes Film Festival and the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film, while Trentiņan himself received the Caesar Award for Best Actor.
