At the age of 41: Pepe announces the end of his career – Cristiano Ronaldo with an emotional expression

At 41 it’s over: Portuguese defensive icon Pepe has announced the end of his successful football career. The Real Madrid professional and 2016 European champion shared a video on social media on Thursday with the caption “Obrigado” (Thank you).

At the recent European Championships in Germany he became the oldest player in EURO history. His contract with FC Porto was not extended.

“A career and a legacy that will always be an example for all Portistas,” wrote FC Porto on its channels.

Cristiano Ronaldo expressed his feelings. “There aren’t enough words to express what you mean to me, buddy,” the superstar wrote: “We’ve won everything there is to win on the field, but the greatest achievement is my friendship and respect for you.”

Pepe (real name: Kepler Laveran Lima Ferreira) played a total of 141 international matches for the Portuguese national team in 16 years. He experienced his most successful time at the club between 2007 and 2017 in Madrid, winning the Champions League three times with the Royals. He has been playing in Porto since 2019, where he started his professional career.
