Schirle canceled a deal with Dortmund this week Borussia, in whose possession he spent the last two seasons, borrowed first in London Fulham and then Moscow Spartacus.
“This decision has been ripe for me for a long time,” Schirle told the magazine Spiegel. “I don’t need applause anymore.”
The footballer who had previously played as a midfielder and attacker had played Mainz, Leverkusen Bayer, London Chelsea a VfL Wolfsburg, as well as in the ranks of the German national team, where he was most vividly remembered with a pass in Mario Gece ‘s victory goal in the 2014 World Cup final against Argentina.
Shirle explains that he has often felt lonely, especially when “low points always got lower and high points became less and less.”
The football industry had not allowed him to show these feelings. “To survive in business, you always have to play a role. Otherwise, you lose your job and don’t get another,” he said.
He made his national team debut in November 2010 and scored 22 goals in 57 matches.
