At the 2024 Abi the Käpsele come from Rottenburg and Ulm

It couldn’t get much better: A student from Ulm and a student from Rottenburg am Neckar (Tübingen district) have passed their school-leaving exams with exceptional success. The two completed their school-leaving exams with 898 out of 900 possible points, as the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Education announced upon request.

The young woman went to the Albert Einstein Gymnasium in Ulm, the young man to the Eugen Bolz Gymnasium in Rottenburg. Around 30,000 students from general secondary schools and community schools took the Abitur exam in the 2023/24 school year.

From 823 points you have a 1.0

A grade of 1.0 is given for a total score of between 900 and 823. A grade of 1.1 is given for a total score of between 822 and 805. 1.0 is the best officially achievable grade. If you get less than 300 points, you fail the Abitur, the ministry announced.

In the 2023 examination year, a student from Ulm also received an excellent grade with 899 points, followed by two students from Offenburg and Böblingen with 898 points each. The top grade of 1.0 was achieved by 3.7 percent of students at general secondary schools last year.

Record high average Abitur grade in Corona times

Last year, the average grade for the Abitur at general secondary schools was 2.21. According to the State Statistical Office, this was slightly worse than in the two previous Abitur years, which were particularly affected by the corona pandemic. In 2021, the average grade reached a peak of 2.15 and was only 0.02 grade points worse in 2022. Since 1990, the Abitur averages had almost consistently been between 2.3 and 2.4. How the youngest year group performed will not be announced until autumn.
