Since spring, waiting times at Schiphol have been unusually long. This is due to the shortage of security guards. The airport wants to solve the problem with extra employees, but it is very difficult to find them.
Travelers can sign up for the VIP service for more than 600 euros. Passport control then takes place in a separate lounge, the airport arranges check-in and VIPs don’t even have to worry about baggage handling.
Due to the influx of new customers, the exclusive service has become so comprehensive that the airport cannot accept new VIP customers. More than 20,000 people have used the service so far this year. The airport says there is room only for regulars, but even those are not guaranteed a seat. To be sure of a seat, repeat customers are advised to book as early as possible.
Schiphol announced a new recruiting campaign more than two weeks ago to attract more security officers. The airport promises, among other things, a higher salary. It is still unclear whether the campaign has also created many new headcounts. The goal is to have a few hundred more security guards by March next year.
