They grow, between Linate e Malpensa, the anger and concern of thehandling. Airport Handling is facing a difficult situation: on the one hand, the general, dramatic contraction of air traffic, on the other the loss of some “weight” orders. A dangerous combination, which worries the workers who work on the slopes (the “ramp” ones) and the boarding staff.

Airport Handling, born on the ashes of the old Sea Handling, is the main service company in the two Milan airports: private company (majority: Dnata, Arab capitals) but with still a public participation through Sea, a subsidiary of the Municipality of Milan.
On the one hand the company copes with the huge decline in traffic volumes, that Sea CEO Armando Brunini quantified 75% compared to 2019, in reference to this October in which the (limited) summer recovery already seems a memory and in which the specter of a new total stop hovers. But then there is also the loss of two orders: Alitalia at Linate and Neos a Malpensa have decided to do without the services of Airport Handling. A legitimate market choicesure, but with a heavy impact.
Already last week, after a fiery assembly in Linate, the mayor of Milan Giuseppe Sala he had to intervene. “In other countries, in addition to the national airline, those who manage airports are supported, for example in Germany, ”said the Milanese mayor. Who reiterated that thecase Airport Handling «is a matter relating to relations between Sea, Alitalia and the governmentAnd that therefore Rome cannot wash its hands.
In all this, i workers have been contesting the two contract changes for months now planned: that of Linate, where Alitalia has decided to unload AH and use its own staff and temporary workers (“Precarious”, all the unions say), that of Malpensa, which instead concerns the Neos company that wants to turn to Ags, a company owned by the Cutrona family, through one of their subsidiaries (the union says that the company does not offer sufficient guarantees, to workers and in terms of quality). The move to Malpensa is now imminent, involving 37 workers.
At the “sea building” in Terminal 2 the approximately two hundred workers had a confrontation – not without tension in some passages – with Airport Handling’s human resources manager, Gian Carlo Grassini, who deserves credit for having faced a difficult moment openly. There was also a few moments of lively exchange of views among the workers, on the tactics to be used (essentially the question was: more pressure on the companies or on Enac?).
Then in the afternoon the protest moved to Case Nuova, in front of the Neos headquarters: “We had a connection with the CEO, we – says Renzo Canavesi, of Cub Trasporti, present today together with Usb, AdL and Flai – reiterated that it is the carrier that is responsible and that the social clause must be frozen “. As was done in 2017 with the planned – and never completed – recourse by Ryanair to the Alpina cooperative, also owned by the Cutrona family.Friday another garrison at the ENAC.
