The fire has largely been extinguished, but not yet fully under control. The number of victims is expected to increase. The emergency services do not yet dare to enter all parts of the building due to the risk of collapse.
Cause possibly fallen candle
According to the fire department, most people were injured when they jumped out of the building to escape the flames. The newspaper The country spoke to a Senegalese resident: “I was watching TV when I suddenly saw a lot of smoke. I climbed to the roof and escaped through another roof. I think many of my friends did not survive.”
It is not yet clear exactly what caused the fire. It may have gone wrong because people made a fire against the cold. One of the migrants declines The vanguard that the fire was started by a fallen candle.
