The suspect, a minor student, is actively sought by the authorities.
At least two people were injured in a shooting at a Denver high school in the United States on Wednesday, report several American media including CBS News. The two victims, one of whom is in a critical situation, were transported and treated at the hospital.
According to Denver Police Commissioner Ron Thomas, the acts were committed by a student who fled after the shooting. According to CBS News, the two victims – school officials – were searching the student when “a gun was discovered, several shots were then fired.”
Suspect known to law enforcement
The student, a minor according to the American media, is known to the authorities. Denver Mayor Michael Hancock described the student as an African American wearing a hoodie with an astronaut on it and being armed and dangerous.
Classes have been canceled for the rest of the week and armed police will be stationed at the high school until the end of the school year, Denver Public Schools Officer Alex Marrero said.
According to the American city’s public schools, a dozen firearms were confiscated from Denver school students between the beginning of the year and mid-February.
