Washington DC Police Chief Peter Newsham said the worst injured person is an officer. It is not yet known why she was involved, he added.
A police spokesman told The Washington Post that the type of situation in which the shooting occurred could be defined as a party. NBC Washington added that it could be a block party.
The EFE news agency defines it as a “massive barbecue.” Newsham said it was not an authorized event.
Hundreds of people were at this street party, in violation of public gathering restraining orders established in the city by the coronavirus, according to District of Columbia officials. The mayor Muriel Elizabeth Bowser said Sunday that the police could begin to intervene to prevent these situations.
