Bolivian authorities reported this Tuesday that at least five people have died and more than 40 others have been injured after the bus they were traveling in plunged into a ravine in the department of Santa this morning (local time). Cruz, in the east of the country.
Police officers and emergency personnel have quickly moved to the scene to try to evacuate the injured and remove the bodies of the deceased passengers, according to the Bolivian newspaper ‘El Deber’. Hospitals in the area have been put on alert.
The bus began its trip on Monday at 4:30 p.m. (local time) from the department of Potosí towards the city of Santa Cruz. The accident occurred hours later, around 5:30 (local time) on the road that connects Mataral and Vallegrande, when the vehicle fell down a ravine of about 20 meters.
