The shooting left at least eight dead and injured this Wednesday in California. The suspect would have committed suicide

A man, an employee of a public transport company, opened fire on the site on Wednesday and shot dead at least eight people. Many people are injured and the death toll could rise, according to police.

A shooting on Wednesday left “several dead” and injured in San José, California, said local police, who said the suspect had been killed.

The shooting took place near a site of the Valley Transportation Authority (VTA), which notably manages public transport in the area. VTA employees are “among the victims”, according to the police. The site was evacuated, the company said on Twitter.

A series of shootings have plagued the United States in recent months, including at a FedEx facility in Indianapolis, in an office building in California, in a supermarket in Boulder (Colorado) and in several massage parlors in Atlanta.

Last weekend, 12 people were shot dead and around 50 injured across the country, in an upsurge in gun violence recently described as an “epidemic” by President Joe Biden.
