At least 8 dead and hundreds injured at Texas Astroworld music festival

The Astroworld festival takes place in Houston’s NRG Park, a site that includes an American football stadium and a concert arena. The festival is completely sold out.

What exactly happened is not entirely clear yet, but in all likelihood several festival-goers have been trampled in the crowd during a concert by American rapper Travis Scott (pictured above). Panic was said to have set in in the audience as the crowd of some 50,000 moved toward the stage.

At least 8 people have been killed, according to the American police. Hundreds of people were also said to have been injured, at least the local ABC station in Houston reports. Several people were taken to hospital, some of them had cardiac arrest.

Travis Scott’s concert was halted when it became clear that several people had been injured.

Earlier in the evening, the situation at the entrance to the festival park was reportedly chaotic as a large crowd tried to get in. Even then, several festival-goers were trampled, although no one is said to have been seriously injured.
