Microsoft has just launched its annual digital defense reportsaying cyber threats are growing significantly, with at least 60 billion cyberattacks occurring every day, especially targeting Microsoft customers. From malign actors in Russia, Iran, North Korea, and China in an election year.
According to Redmond, some of the nation-state actors engaging in cyber espionage have also collaborated with cybercriminals to gain financial gain, influence elections, or resolve geopolitical conflicts, such as by targeting countries in conflict. It is said that cyber operations are used as a tool to do this.
“This challenge cannot be accomplished by simply implementing a checklist of cyber hygiene measures; it can only be accomplished by focusing on and committing to the fundamentals of cyber defense, from individual users to business executives and government leaders.” Tom Burt saidHe is the corporate vice president of customer security and trust at Microsoft.
Microsoft and its users have been affected by numerous cyberattacks. The Redmond tech giant has been a victim of: SolarWinds attack, one of the most technical and largest type of attack that happened in many years. Not to mention the major cloud attacks that affected about 25 organizations last year and many more.
Microsoft says enough is enough and this is the point. The Secure Future Initiative effort has begun to make the Internet more secure.
A lot of effort has been put into implementing SFI. Even in little things. Strengthen the security of the types of smartphones Microsoft employees use or the new publishing API Edge. Automated threat detection, AI and machine learning, and automatic patching and updates all play a key role in this initiative.
In the report, Microsoft also said it handled 1.25 million distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks. Internet Archive will be discontinued in the second half of this month. It’s at least four times more than last year.
