“At Least 50 Killed in Myanmar Airstrikes on Opponents of Military Junta”

At least 50 people died as a result of airstrikes launched by the military Myanmar at an event attended by opponents of the junta in a village in the Sagaing region. The world also rained international criticism Myanmar’s military juntawho confirmed that he had launched an attack on the village.

As reported AFPWednesday (12/4/2023), reports from a number of media such as BBC Burmese, Radio Free Asia (RFA) and the Irrawaddy news portal along with information from residents of the Sagaing region said that at least 50-100 people, including civilians, were killed by air strikes on Tuesday (12/4/2023). 11/4) local time.

The Sagaing region near Mandalay, Myanmar’s second largest city, has offered fierce resistance to the military junta, with fighting raging for several months there.

Videos circulating on social media show bodies strewn around houses destroyed by the airstrikes. The video could not be independently verified by AFP.

A rescue worker with the anti-coup People’s Defense Forces (PDF) told AFP that women and children were among those killed in the attack. After evacuating the dead and taking the injured for medical treatment, the rescue worker said the death toll could be as high as 100.

Myanmar’s military junta confirmed it had carried out an air strike on the village in the Sagaing region.

“There was a ceremony to open the (People’s Defense Forces) office… on (Tuesday) morning around 8:00 a.m. local time, in Pazi Gyu village. We have attacked the site,” Myanmar military junta spokesman Zaw Min Tun said in a statement Tuesday. (11/4) midnight.
