At least 30 dead in landslides and floods in Brazil
Heavy rains cause deadly landslides in Brazil: at least 28 people die, two more are swept away by a river and killed. More than 760 people have had to evacuate their homes because of the flooding.

Brasilia.Landslides triggered by heavy rains have killed at least 28 people in the Brazilian state of Pernambuco. The authorities in the northeastern state announced this on Saturday. In the state of Alagoas, which is also in the region, two people died after being swept away by masses of water when a river burst its banks.

More than 760 people had to leave their homes because of flooding in Pernambuco, civil defense officials said on Twitter. Leonardo Rodrigues from the Civil Protection in Pernambuco said in a video published on Instagram that around 32,000 families live in the state in areas at risk of landslides or floods. Schools have been opened in the city of Recife to accommodate the homeless.

In Alagoas, the state government said 33 communities had declared a state of emergency because of heavy rains in the past seven days.
