At least 29 people were executed in one day in Iran
According to the organization, such an execution in Iran can be called an unprecedented case – the last execution of this scale was recorded in 2009.
According to information available to the IHR, 26 people were executed in Gezelkezar prison in the town of Kerage, near Tehran, and three others in prison in the city of Kerege.
Those executed, including two Afghan nationals, were charged with murder, rape and drug-related offences. After protests in Iran in 2022, caused by the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini, at a morality police station, human rights groups have accused Tehran again of using the death penalty to to frighten the public.
