At least 23 migrants have drowned off the coast of Tunisia, the Tunisian branch of the Red Crescent has reported. According to the aid organization, the Tunisian navy has rescued 70 migrants alive from the water.
The migrants were en route from Libya to Italy when their boat sank. Their age and country of origin have not been disclosed. The Navy also rescued 39 people on board from another boat that had run into trouble off the coast.
More than 120 migrants have drowned in the Mediterranean Sea near Tunisia in recent weeks. Favorable weather conditions mean that more people are venturing across from North Africa to Europe.
