At least seventeen people, mostly young people, were killed in a cafe in the South African coastal town of East London last night. The cause is not yet clear. The victims may have been oppressed or poisoned.
South African media speak of a bizarre incident. A government spokesman said bodies were found on the grounds of the Enyobeni Tavern, without injuries. It seems that they are oppressed, but also the possibility of poisoning is not excluded. The bodies were on tables and chairs and on the floor.
The incident happened after midnight. This morning a crowd had gathered in front of the cafe, including parents who fear their child has died. Most victims would be between the ages of 18 and 20.
