An adjacent building was also damaged, according to other local media. Several fire brigade units are working in the area to remove victims from under the rubble.
Burning in factories and shops
Bangladesh regularly suffers from fires in industrial or retail buildings. According to human rights activists, this is mainly due to government corruption and poor supervision.
In 2013, 1,100 people died when a garment factory collapsed near the capital. It led to the Bangladesh Clothing Agreement, in which agreements were made about the safe production of clothing.
In 2019 there was a major fire in the oldest part of the city, which killed 67 people and destroyed several apartments, shops and warehouses.
There have also been two explosions in recent days: three people were killed in a laboratory in Dhaka on Sunday, and seven people were killed in an explosion at an oxygen tank supplier in the Chittagong region on Saturday.
