At least 11,000 wounded and sick Palestinians in the Gaza Strip urgently need to travel to other countries for medical care, the Hamas-run Health Ministry said Wednesday.
Ministry spokesman Ashraf Al-Qedra said in a statement that “it is necessary to save the lives of patients. “The ministry cannot provide them with all medical services due to the lack of medical personnel and equipment resulting from the current Israeli war in Gaza.”
“Right now, the ministry can operate parts of the hospitals in northern Gaza, but it is necessary for medical supplies and fuel to arrive, and for medical teams from the south to return to continue their work,” Al-Qedra added.
He also said that the north of the strip and Gaza City are experiencing terrible health and humanitarian conditions due to Israel’s attacks and the blockade against them since the conflict in Gaza began on October 7, 2023.
In addition, 27,708 Palestinians, including women and children, have been killed so far by Israeli attacks on Gaza and 67,147 have been injured, the ministry said in its update today.
According to the United Nations Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), 84 percent of its health facilities in the strip have been affected by Israeli attacks.
The UN agency indicated that of the 22 health facilities affiliated with it, only four remain operational due to Israel’s persistent bombing and blockade.
