The killers belonged to the family of a local tribal leader and lived in the al-Aumd neighborhood. Eleven more houses were damaged in the attack, and 16 people were injured.
For years, the Houthis have been trying to conquer oil-rich Maarib and gain control of the northern half of Yemen. During the first half of 2021, 154 civilians were killed and wounded in the conflict, and 170,000 people are fleeing the fighting.
Yemen has been ravaged by civil war since 2014 when the Houthis took control of the capital Sanaa and much of northern Yemen.
A Saudi-led coalition with US support has been trying to reinstate the previous government since 2015, but despite a relentless air offensive and fierce ground fighting, the war has ended in a protracted civil war and the world’s worst humanitarian crisis.
