At least 11 people were killed and 15 wounded today in a Russian military training camp after two gunmen opened fire on a group of volunteers preparing to fight in Ukraine, Reuters reported, citing RIA Novosti.
The Russian news agency quoted a statement from the Moscow Defense Ministry alleging that the two attackers were killed after the attack in the Belgorod region of southwestern Russia, near the border with Ukraine. The agency added that the attackers were from a former Soviet republic, but did not provide further details.
“During the training shootings with people who have expressed a voluntary desire to participate in the special military operation [срещу Украйна], the terrorists opened fire with small arms on the personnel of the unit. As a result of the shooting, 11 people were fatally injured. Another 15 people with injuries of varying severity were taken to a medical facility, “the announcement reads.
The RIA did not specify where the attack took place. Belgorod authorities often accuse Ukraine of attacking the city’s power lines and fuel and weapons depots. Kiev did not claim responsibility for the attacks, Reuters recalled.
The Associated Press added that the two attackers were part of a group of volunteers during the fire training.
