On Christmas Eve, a missile allegedly hit an area of Kherson where there were many civilians.
A Russian attack on the recently retaken Ukrainian city of Kherson killed at least 10 people, Reuters reported, citing local authorities.
58 other people are said to have been injured.
Kherson governor Yaroslav Yanushevych says the death toll has risen to 10, after seven deaths were initially reported, Reuters reported, citing Ukrainian news agency Interfax.
Russia has so far not commented on the attack. They have always denied attacks on civilians.
Ukraine regained control of the city in November. Since then, Russia has carried out several powerful attacks against Kherson, across the Dnipro River.
The missile landed in a grocery store
Yuriy Sobolevskyi, head of the regional council, said a missile landed next to a grocery store in a city square.
– There were civilians there, everyone lived their own lives, going about their own business, according to Reuters.
Photos taken by photographers in the area show a very dramatic situation in Kherson. The images show desperate people and several dead bodies.
– For intimidation
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has posted several photos on social media showing extensive destruction and people killed.
– Social networks will most likely label these images as “sensitive content”. But this is not sensitive content: it is real life of Ukraine and Ukrainians, she writes.
– These are not military facilities. It is terror, it is murder out of fear and guilt, writes the Ukrainian president.
Zelensky has just returned to Ukraine, following his first trip abroad to the United States since the outbreak of war.
