My health is better, I am no longer on treatment. This is what the legendary pop-folk artist Sashka Vaseva said about her big fight for life.
In 2009, Sashka admitted to the whole of Bulgaria that, unfortunately, she could no longer see with her right eye. Later, in 2021, the singer was also diagnosed with a head tumor that caused her to lose her sight completely.
During a life-saving operation in Germany, which lasted more than 12 hours, doctors removed the malignant growth, the size of an egg. The tumor pressed on the performer’s optic nerve and this is the reason why Sashka became completely blind.
“I’m better now. I hope that everything will be alright,” shared the beloved performer from Dupnitsa.
For 10 years Vaseva lived with a wrong diagnosis – atrophy of the optic nerve. The performer tried to heal herself with folk medicine and miraculous springs. But her problem suddenly worsened and she went completely blind.
During her stay in the German hospital, the performer of “Lions and Marks” gained 11 kilograms.
“For most of the year I was unconscious. It was a lesson that taught me to care more for my family and my husband because they were close to me. In 22 years of marriage I had not learned to appreciate my husband, but it was he who saved my life,” Vaseva said at the end of 2022.
The talented performer said that while she was lying in the hospital for tumor surgery, she did not lose hope and even delighted the patients with Serbian songs.
“In the German clinic, there were many patients from Croatia, with whom we spoke in Serbian. Some of them knew that I was a singer, and when they all found out, they made me sing them Serbian songs,” Sashka told “Bulgaria Dnes”.
Exactly one year ago, Vaseva showed fighting spirit and returned to the stage of “Pirin Folk”, and the audience at the Summer Theater in Sandanski welcomed her on their feet. “Pirin Folk” has a special place in Sashka’s life, since it was there that her career as a singer began nearly three decades ago. With the performance of his author’s song “Green Eyes”, which he presented for the first time at the festival in 1997, Sashka caused a real sensation and became a star.
“My husband is an angel. I am lucky to have married him. The song I sang at Pirin Folk – “Green Eyes” was a kind of prayer before I met him. My husband also did the impossible to save life my,” Sashka also said.
At this stage, the legend of the 90s continues to go to performances in the establishments where she is invited. Sashka devotes more time to her beautiful family, with whom she does not plan to go to the beach this summer.
“I’m more or less fine. We won’t be going on vacation to the sea this year. We’ll be together with my family,” concluded the combative Sashka.
