The changing season in motor vehicle insurance will enter the hot phase in the coming days. However, women sometimes have to pay significantly more for their car insurance than their male counterparts. Contract manager Volders claims to have found this out in a current analysis.
With 795 euros per year, women drivers pay 57 euros more for their policy than men (738 euros per year). The biggest difference is around 345 euros with the industry leader Huk Coburg: Accordingly, customers pay an average of 1,033 euros, while customers pay 688 euros.
The situation is similar with other motor insurers: female drivers (F: 705 euros per year, M: 609 euros) at CosmosDirekt have to reckon with 96 euros more. The Verti policy is also 74 euros more expensive for women (F: 1,016 euros, M: 942 euros).
“The contributions for motor vehicle insurance are made up of a wide variety of attributes, for example the damage class and the car brand determine the price. What is striking about the results of the analysis, however, is that some insurance companies have such clear differences between the sexes. “
Mathias Rhode, Volders Chief Marketing Officer
The results come from an anonymous analysis of 48,571 internal contracts and terminations via contract manager Volders from 2019.
Insurers are lowering car premiums due to Corona
Because of the corona pandemic, other motor insurers have now granted their customers corresponding premium refunds due to lower mileage. Bayerische announced that this year customers would indicate the reduced mileage for 2020 via the digital insurance and contract manager “Meine Bayerische”.
As soon as this has taken place, the customer will be reimbursed the contributions and the mileage will be covered accordingly for the coming year. If the number of kilometers driven does not change in the following year, the customer does not have to act again and only pays for what he actually drives.
“The pandemic has resulted in many of our customers abandoning their cars – be it through home office or short-time work. We therefore find it only fair to repay our customers the overpaid premiums – retrospectively for the whole year and not just for a limited period of time “
Martin Gräfer, CEO of the BA Bayerische Allgemeine Versicherung AG
At the beginning of October 2020, Zurich Germany had already announced that it would reimburse customers for insurance premiums for kilometers not driven in 2020. The mobility behavior of the insured has changed significantly as a result of the Corona crisis. For example, short-time work or home office would eliminate many daily commutes. Numerous vacation trips and excursions with private vehicles also fell victim to the corona lockdown, emphasized the insurer.
