At Henri-Wallon, we defend secularism

Explaining secularism to the children of the Henri-Wallon school, to celebrate the law of December 9, 1905, is the very appropriate initiative taken by Rim Azzouz, Alaé referent (Leisure center associated with the school) and concluded with a beautiful exhibition before Christmas. “A lot of work was done with the students of CM1 and CM2 to understand secularism, defend its principles, but also promote the acquisition and sharing of the values of the Republic, also with the aim of reminding the fundamental principles of coexistence on a daily basis. Even if the charter of secularism is exposed to everyone at school, it still and always deserves to be the object of a specific work of appropriation with the children”. As for the students, “they expressed secularism on posters as they understood it, testimonies lived at school or at home. As future citizens, they were able to develop their critical spirit. We will ensure the continuity of this project so that everyone feels involved by these values of respect and of coexistence”. Per Véronique Gardeur-Bancel, Assistant Delegate for Education, “The children did an excellent job around the strong words of secularism, fraternity, respect, equality, citizenship, tolerance, republic, school. They sang the Marseillaise, during the exhibition, with great pride and emotion. A flag and anthem of country bring citizens together.”
