At El Colegio Nacional, Educational and Public Television celebrates 60 years with the Álvaro Gálvez y Fuentes Chair

    • For three days, academics, public servants and education specialists meet to reflect on the impact of Educational and Public Television in Mexico and its future prospects.
    • This meeting may be the beginning of what will lead us to develop many other strategies for the dissemination of science and culture: Teresa Vicencio Álvarez.

Educational Television in Mexico commemorates its 60th anniversary with the 2024 edition of the “Álvaro Gálvez y Fuentes” Chair, which will take place for three days at the facilities of El Colegio Nacional.

During the opening session, Teresa Vicencio Álvarez, administrative secretary of El Colegio Nacional, stressed that both this institution and Educational Television are united by the mission of disseminating culture and science.

“We share common goals that are now intertwined, so the presence of representatives of the vast ecosystem of public radio and television in Mexico gives even more meaning to the mission of El Colegio Nacional,” emphasized Vicencio Álvarez. In this sense, he reaffirmed his interest in making El Colegio Nacional and the services it offers known, such as the Documentation Center and the Exhibition Hall.

“I am sure that this meeting can be the beginning of something that will lead us to develop many other strategies for the dissemination of science and culture,” she added.

For her part, Azucena Pimentel Mendoza, director of @aprende.mx, announced that during the course, activities will be carried out to promote educational television as a public policy that guarantees the right to education for girls, boys and adolescents.

“Since the last century, the Ministry of Public Education has launched initiatives that take advantage of audiovisual materials to innovate in teaching and learning processes, since their great potential allows education to be brought to diverse contexts and to meet the different educational needs of communities,” said Pimentel Mendoza.

He also commented that, within the framework of the 60th anniversary of Educational Television, during the “Álvaro Gálvez y Fuentes” Lecture, there will be a discussion on Educational Television, the New Mexican School, “inclusion and other topics related to the right to education.”

The course will take place from Tuesday, August 6th to Thursday, August 8th in the Aula Mayor of El Colegio Nacional (Donceles 104, Centro Histórico, CDMX) and will be broadcast through the digital platforms of @aprende.mx.

The event will be attended by academics, public servants and education specialists, who will meet in discussions and roundtables to reflect on the impact of Educational Television in Mexico and its future prospects.
