at Delacroix high school in Drancy, 20 students have already lost a parent to Covid

The staff of the Eugène-Delacroix high school in Drancy (Seine-Saint-Denis) sent this Friday March 26, 2021, a letter to the President of the Republic and to the Minister of National Education, to officially and solemnly request the closure of the establishment where the cases of Covid are increasing.

“Alarming health situation”

In this letter, the teachers denounce a “alarming health situation”. Since the start of the school year on March 1, two positive cases and one contact case have been identified among the management team, 54 positive students without counting the new cases each day, about twenty positive teachers, 48 classes with at least one student case contact.

About twenty parents of students who died from Covid

Numbers “indicative of a serious and imminent danger”, they write. Above all, they recall that in this establishment which has 2,400 students, about twenty young people have already lost their father or mother or a parent in their first circle, since the start of the epidemic a year ago. “We were told this number at the last board meeting in December “, affirms Fabrice Morel, teacher and representative of SNES-FSU 93, contacted by France Bleu Paris. “Myself, I have two students who have lost their father”. Just this week he learned that at least one parent was in critical condition.

Teachers exercise their right of withdrawal

Beyond adults, therefore, concern is also great among many adolescents. Saliva tests are planned in the establishment on March 30, but they obviously arrive too late for Fabrice Morel. Teachers have been exercising their right of withdrawal since Tuesday and expect to repeat it next week if their request is not taken into account. They wrote it in black and white in the letter sent to the Head of State: “We demand the urgent and temporary closure of the establishment, with a total switch to distance education to ensure pedagogical continuity.”

272 classes closed in Seine-Saint-Denis

According to the last weekly report communicated by the rectorate, this Friday, 272 classes are closed in Seine-Saint-Denis, but no school. Throughout the Créteil academy, 3,696 students are carriers of the virus, i.e. 877 more in 24 hours and among staff, 857 cases are positive, an increase of 117 in 24 hours.
