At CES Nelson Mandela, parents are scrambling to register their children

Libreville, Sunday September 24, 2023 (Gabon News) – This motivation would be, according to the principal of this secondary education college in Libreville, due to the measure of free registration and tuition fees taken by the new Gabonese authorities.

In Gabon, the start of the school year has been effective since September 18, a week after the resumption of work in the administration. The time has come for registrations and re-registrations in accordance with the decisions taken by the new authorities, with the start of the school year being staggered level by level (College – High School). This is what Gabin Rispal Emore MBA, whom we met, explains to us. He is the Principal of the Nelson Mandela Secondary School in Libreville.

According to him, the measures taken on free registration and tuition fees, as well as the price of school clothing (uniform) are applied. Details in this interview he gave to Infos Gabon.

Gabon Info: Is the start of the school year effective in your establishments?

Gabin Rispal Emore MBA : The administrative start has been well and truly in effect in our establishment since September 11. We started with meetings with operational services. All this, in compliance with the instructions of the Committee for Transition and Restoration of Institutions (CTRI), headed by President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema and the Minister of National Education, Camelia Ntoutoume Leclercq, regarding free tuition fees. registrations.
Here registrations are free, no money has been given by the parents of the students, I myself take care of the application. Another measure, it must also be said, which is also laudable and which we have an eye on, is the price of school uniforms at the fixed price of thirteen thousand (13,000) francs as recommended by the authorities.

So, here we are hard at work waiting for classes to start on Monday, September 25 for colleges.

Infos Gabon: How are things going at the Nelson Mandela Secondary School of which you are the Principal, is there a real enthusiasm among parents motivated by the measures taken by the transitional authorities?

Gabin Rispal Emore MBA : It must be said that with the free measure decided by the highest authorities, parents are motivated, they are hustling. As proof, from the first day, that is to say September 11, we were able to record seven hundred (700) registrations and on the second day six hundred (600), which makes one thousand three hundred (1300) registered in only two days. This is to tell you the enthusiasm and we reassure you that everything is going well, apart from a few late arrivals.

Gabon Info: What are your reception arrangements, how are students sent to the 6th grade class welcomed? Are there any documents to provide for registrations?

Gabin Rispal Emore MBA : We have set up four (4) registration levels, 6th – 5th – 4th and 3rd with at least two registration agents in four classrooms set up to receive parents. Regarding the elements to be provided, all that is required for the parent is to bring the 6th grade orientation form which they collect from the primary establishment where the child comes from, a copy of the non-legalized birth certificate and two identity photos.

Besides that, they will have to pay thirteen thousand (13,000) francs for school clothing. It should also be remembered that the establishment has a capacity of 27 physical rooms and 54 educational divisions, which means that we operate with a rotation system organized so that the 6th and 3rd grade classes take classes in morning and the 5th and 4th in the afternoon. The establishment can accommodate between 3000 and 5000 students.

Info Gabon: One of the concerns of parents is the orientations of 3rd year students moving to 2nd class, that is to say at the Lycée. How does this work for students at the end of the cycle in your college (CES)?

Gabin Rispal Emore MBA : It must be said that here we are within the framework of a complex. The Mandela complex, which benefits from the advantage that children who leave the CES are directly sent to the Mandela High School. Unlike what is done elsewhere where it is still necessary to hold an orientation committee, here our children go directly to Mandela High School.

At the same time, I would like to thank the highest authorities for all the measures taken this year, in particular the return of scholarships to secondary school students. And wish a happy return to school to all CES learners, by meeting on Monday September 25, 2023.
