According to Jean-Luc Mélenchon, the NFP will remain united around Lucie Castets whatever happens.
POLITICS – Upon entering the Amfis stage on Friday, August 23, Jean-Luc Mélenchon was greeted with long applause. He tried to speak once, then a second time, but was interrupted each time by cheers from the audience. “Stop, you’re going to make me cry.”he murmurs, visibly surprised by such a welcome.
It will only take a few seconds for him to find his usual accents again. “Macron is like a Netflix series: we have to speed up to get the rest”he tackles in front of a hilarious audience. An obvious nod to the presidential procrastination at the time of appointing a Prime Minister in the wake of legislative elections which saw his camp lose its relative majority.
That same morning, a delegation from the New Popular Front, led by Lucie Castets, went to the Élysée Palace as part of the consultations requested by the Head of State.
« Proud to have Lucie Castets among us »
For Jean-Luc Mélenchon, “Macron 1st, the autocrat of the French, must hear the message. For the moment, he rules alone”. Before heaping compliments on the NFP’s joint candidate for Matignon: “Lucie Castets reminded Macron: there will obviously be Insoumis ministers in his government. She is not an Insoumise, but she deserves to be. We are grateful to her and proud to have her among us.” The spokesperson for the collective Nos services publics will also be present this Saturday at Amfis, where she is scheduled to speak for an hour and a half.
An important moment for the leader of LFI, who asked his flock to welcome him in the best possible conditions. “Let us express our support, our respect, our trust and our friendship.” Lucie Castets’ comments on the increase in the minimum wage (which she saw as a « horizon » to reach, before going back on his remarks) may have cooled part of the rebellious base, but for Jean-Luc Mélenchon, there is no subject. “As long as this National Assembly lasts, Lucie Castets will remain the NFP candidate. We do not treat people like objects.”
Earlier in the day this Friday, all the rebellious leaders had united behind the proposal of dismissal, put forward on August 18 in The Tribune Sunday by Mathilde Panot and Manuel Bompard in particular.
« We are Republicans and Democrats »
Behind his lectern, Jean-Luc Mélenchon also points out that 44% of French people are in favor of the idea of dismissing Emmanuel Macron, according to a recent poll. Above all, he is trying to minimize the differences in approach within the NFP. “We all agree that it is unacceptable for the President to carry out such a coup against democracy. Otherwise, what solution is left? We are Republicans and Democrats, we seize the weapons that the Constitution allows us to seize.”
The three-time presidential candidate also took the opportunity to dispel any dissonance within the left-wing alliance, preferring to point out that at the Élysée, the four parties making up the coalition have “demonstrates [leur] unity before Macron »The only problem, according to him, is the vacillations of the Socialist Party, torn between a wing favorable to the NFP, around Olivier Faure, and a much more critical wing. “That’s the only problem. Part of the PS believes that LFI should be expelled from the left-wing coalition. That would exclude young people and working-class neighborhoods.”warned Jean-Luc Mélenchon. Very political remarks, which ultimately lead the main person concerned to say that “The major works for 2027 have begun”. We had so little doubt about it.
