AT Agios Panteleimonas: The commander confessed that the 38-year-old Pakistani was never detained with others – 2024-09-28 03:01:31

A few hours later, ELAS’ announcement is denied in the most deafening way. As documentonews.gr wrote from the first moment, the announcement of the Headquarters raised more questions than it gave answers.

Specifically, during the visit of Stefanos Kasselakis to the AT Agios Panteleimonas, in the wake of the shocking news, according to information, the commander confessed that the 38-year-old Pakistani was never detained together with others. It is recalled that the claim was: “… during his stay in the detention center, a small-scale incident occurred with his fellow prisoners and he was immediately moved to a different area of the Department”.

In practice, the commander’s confession also refutes the police’s claim, in the same sentence, about a fight with other prisoners.

At the same time, it strengthens the position of the lawyers of the unfortunate 38-year-old who emphasize that the unfortunate man was tortured.

Specifically, ELAS wrote yesterday:

“On the morning of the same day (Wednesday, September 18, 2024) with the case filed against him, he was brought before the competent Prosecutor, tried in his own right and sentenced to -29- months in prison (of which the -4- months, giving a suspension of -3- years to the remaining -25- months) as well as a fine.

This was followed by his re-incarceration at the Police Department, until his transfer to a Penitentiary, as defined by law. However, during his stay in the detention center, a small-scale incident occurred with his fellow prisoners and he was immediately moved to a different area of the Department.”

Kasselakis asked for transparency

Stefanos Kasselakis met with the commander of the department for about 30 minutes.

Mr. Kasselakis did not want to go into details of what was discussed, stressing however that questions remain. He characteristically stated that he did not receive clear answers about how “our deceased fellow man left here dead”.

“We need much more transparency and I hope that the investigation that is being carried out will give us that soon. All our fellow citizens and fellow human beings regardless of their nationality are equal in the world in which we live. We must respect human life in the same way always, whether it is an immigrant or a Greek citizen, a man or a woman” emphasized the former president of SYRIZA and continued to say that:

“I really have a lot of questions and it’s part of a bigger picture that we have to look at in terms of how the police need to be restructured so that there’s a lot more transparency and trust … knowing what’s going on inside these spaces.”

At another point he underlined how “it is not possible for someone to be in a detention center alone and leave dead from a police station in Greece in 2024”

Late at night EL.AS. issued a new announcement “regarding publications referring to the death of a foreigner within the Athens Police Department”

The announcement of EL.AS.
