Many people still know Ruth Westheimer as a sex therapist from radio and television. Now the 95-year-old has a new job and is fighting loneliness. Her reaction to the job offer was: “Hallelujah.”

New York. The German-born sex therapist Ruth Westheimer (95) is the new anti-loneliness ambassador for the US state of New York. Westheimer will take on the first volunteer position of its kind in the nation to address the growing “loneliness epidemic” in the state, Governor Kathy Hochul announced.

“Hallelujah” is said to have been Westheimer’s reaction to the offer. “I am deeply honored and have promised the governor that I will work day and night to make New Yorkers feel less alone.”
Holocaust survived
“Dr. Ruth” in 1928 as Karola Ruth Siegel in Wiesenfeld near Frankfurt. As the daughter of a Jewish family, she came to Switzerland on a Kindertransport at the age of ten, shortly before the outbreak of the Second World War, and thus escaped the Holocaust.

She later went to the USA and became famous as a sex therapist with shows on radio and television.
