at 34, he made his “last lap”, at the world championships, in Roubaix

End of career for the bisontin cyclist Morgan Kneisky, in particular 4 times World track champion, including three times for the “American” race and he will not be World champion a 5th time on Sunday 24 October. But the Roubaix velodrome gave him a standing ovation.

Morgan Kneisky turned 34 on August 31, 34, the age to hang up. This Sunday, October 24, he ended a brilliant career in cycling, a little bit of road and above all a lot of track.

In Roubaix, this Sunday, October 24, he aligned himself with his friend Benjamin Thomas on the “American” race, his favorite event. But, the two French did not get on the podium. The gold medal was won by the Danish pair, Lasse Norman Hansen and Michael Morkov, already Olympic champion in Tokyo. They beat the pairs of Italy (Consonni / Scartezzini) and Belgium (De Ketele / Ghys) in this long race of 200 laps, or 50 kilometers interspersed with 20 sprints. Great Britain was tied for fourth on points with France, Morgan Kneisky and Benjamin Thomas, which they beat in the last sprint.

Lo and behold, Morgan Kneisky’s last lap did not allow him to add a medal to his record. But the Bisontin has nothing to regret: it dominated the track for several years. The proof is that the Roubaix velodrome gave him a standing ovation, in good French, to salute the career of a great champion. Morgan Kneisky couldn’t hold back tears.

La piste, forever …

The road was not his playground, he often changed professional teams but it was on the track that he built his career brilliantly.

He made his first laps on the velodrome in Besançon. And very quickly shines in competition. He was a professional for 10 years, from 2010 to 2020.

On the track, his favorite element, he won a world champion title in scratch. It was in Poland in 2009. With this gold medal, he amazes the world of cycling where no one expected him. At 22, he entered the big leagues that day …

But it is not the scratch that will shape his record, it is in the race “American” or “Madison”, from the name of the first place where a race of this type took place, the Madison Square Garden in New York. The race is contested by teams of 2 runners who take turns on the ring and who compete in intermediate sprints which give points and distances covered.

In this discipline, he snatched the title of world champion 3 times with 3 different partners. In 2013 in Minsk, Belarus, it was with Vivien Brisse, then in 2015 it was with Bryand Coquard in Saint Quentin en Yvelines and, last title in 2017, Benjamin Thomas is his teammate, in Hong Kong.

To these golden titles, let us add that Morgan Kneisky is also on the podium on 4 occasions: 2 places of 2nd and 2 places of 3rd.
