Asylum-seeking families receive gifts just in time for Christmas, during an event held by the Department of Social Services and several nonprofit organizations at a Manhattan hotel.
The event seeks to provide migrant families with a space to celebrate this Christmas and for children to feel the best of the Christmas spirit in what will probably be their first holiday season in this country.
“The little gifts for many children who have not been favored in their homes, now in this hotel it is like a home for the children. The happiness that my daughter has now is quite pleasant for me since any detail for her is something that makes her heart proud,” said a young mother attending the event.
The hard work of the frontline staff who care for these vulnerable families has also been recognized.
