Asylum seekers intimidate bus drivers Interior

Bus drivers on line 99 between Uden and Nijmegen feel unsafe. The drivers are regularly intimidated by a group of around 25 asylum seekers. Carriers Connexxion and Arriva have now taken their measures.

According to Omroep Brabant, security guards now regularly ride the bus. The small group of asylum seekers regularly causes problems with boarding at Grave. For example, they refuse to pay, discuss the fare and are aggressive towards the bus driver, Connexxion claims. The attack and the nuisance mainly take place in the afternoon and evening.

“Around eight people come from the asylum seekers’ center in Grave,” says spokesman Anton Masteling of the Central Agency for the Reception of Asylum Seekers to the regional broadcaster. “Where the others come from, we don’t know yet.” Possibly here too, people from safe countries are concerned, the spokesperson said.

Earlier this week it became clear that Nijmegen is being ravaged by robbing asylum seekers from safe countries. Mayor Hubert Bruls therefore imposed an area ban of twelve weeks on eleven young asylum seekers. “It’s a persistent problem,” acknowledged the mayor. The street robbers work extremely thoughtfully. They form small groups and, for example, bump into train travelers during their robbery. In the night they consciously pick out the drunk people in the nightlife. They kindly hug the victims and then subconsciously take away their possessions.

Eight robbing asylum seekers came from the Grave of Overloon azc. Whether there is a link with the problems in the bus is not clear.

The police, COA, the bus companies and the municipality will soon be sitting around the table to look for a solution.
