Asylum Seeker, Immigration | This boat with asylum seekers is historic

There they live in an internment camp while their applications are processed.

It is about 16 men from Bangladesh and Egypt who were picked up in the Mediterranean on their way to Europe.

They arrived Wednesday morning in the Scottish port city of Shengjin after a 36-hour journey by naval vessel.

The defense camp was established as a result of an agreement between Albania and Italy. This is the first time that asylum seekers will be taken from an EU country to a country outside the Union to spend their waiting period there.

It is said that the Albanian government has received several inquiries about making similar agreements with other EU countries. But the Prime Minister of Albania, Edi Rama, has clarified that all other countries have been rejected, and that the agreement only applies to Italy.

The European Commission will present legislative proposals that will increase the pressure on illegal migrants to force them to return to their home country.

– The Commission will put forward a new bill that will make clear demands that those who must return must cooperate, the letter says.

The proposal for an updated return directive replaces an earlier proposal from 2018 that landed in the EU Parliament.

The letter from von der Leyen is in response to requests from several EU countries for a tougher asylum and migration policy.

In the letter, it is also opened to look with new eyes if it is possible to establish asylum centers outside the borders of the EU.

In 2018, the Commission decided that these institutions would not be compatible with EU law.
