ASVEL Wins Derby on Astroballe Floor, Excludes Nando de Colo: Villeurbanne Climbs to Second Place in Pro A Ranking

ASVEL won the derby on its Astroballe floor against JL Bourg (84-61), Sunday February 11, for the 23rd day of Pro A. All in a sold-out room. Nando de Colo was excluded from the game in the third quarter. Villeurbanne is ahead of Bourg-en-Bresse and goes second in the ranking.

A derby cannot be played… it must be won!

For one of the big posters of the 23rd day of Pro A, ASVEL put on a show against JL Bourg in a packed Astroballe (5,560 spectators), Sunday February 11.

Victory for Villeurbanne 84 to 61.

The stakes were high: before kick-off, Bourg-en-Bresse was second in the standings. Just ahead of Villeurbanne third.

At the end of the meeting, ASVEL passed JL Bourg by occupying second place in Pro A.

ASVEL’s next match will be another big one: a trip to Monaco on Tuesday February 13 (8 p.m.) for the round of 16 of the Coupe de France.

ASVEL little worried despite the exclusion of Nando de Colo

At the start of the match, the starting 5 of Pierric Poupet (ASVEL coach) was made up of the following players: Edwin Jackson, Charles Kahudi, Noam Yaacov, Youssoupha Fall and Mike Scoot.

Opposite, the young prodigy winger trained in Villeurbanne Zaccharie Richarser (18 years old) started the match as a starter in the JL Bourg jersey. Determined to make an impression in front of his former audience.

It was a committed derby which took place in the first quarter (24-16.) Villeurbanne took off from this stage of the match with a 36% shooting success rate (5/14).

Pierric Poupet’s players continued to play their basketball before the break during the second quarter. As a home boss, Villeurbanne was 24 points ahead of JL Bourg when they returned to the locker room (49-25).

The meeting became a bit electric in the third quarter (67-42). The cause: Nando de Colo was sent off due to a foul. This was accumulated by another unsportsmanlike foul in the first half against the playmaker.

It was tense between Kahudi and Kokila…

The game then flared up following this widely contested exclusion at the Astroballe. As evidence, the whistles and the bronca of the Villeurbanne supporters towards the referee.

But also a small scuffle between Charles Kahudi (ASVEL) and Kevin Kokila (JL Bourg), both separated by the other players. They almost came to blows…

In the last quarter, Villeurbanne consolidated its path to victory (84-61) by taming a JL Bourg team which missed its derby.
