ASV Hamm-Westfalen vs. TBV Lemgo Lippe: Review of an Entertaining Handball Match

The ASV Hamm-Westfalen also did the best advertising on their own behalf in the third test match of the preparation. As part of the anniversary game at the partner club SG Ruhrtal, the Westphalians lost to the class-higher TBV Lemgo after a hard-fought game 26:31 (14:13) and still won the first half. The approximately 300 spectators in the completely occupied Oeventroper Ruhrtalhalle thanked both teams with standing ovations for an extremely entertaining handball evening.

From a sporting point of view, there was not too much to complain about on either side. Of course, both coaches found points that need to be worked on in the next units, such as the accuracy of the final, “but that’s exactly what these tests are about,” said ASV coach Michael Lerscht, who, like against Hagen, Jakob Sterba and Marian Orlowski, was missing. Lemgo’s Florian Kehrmann was also missing players, but at least the TBV was able to field 16 players – who, however, had already completed an interval session in the morning. “We’re going very well for the first 40 minutes. Then the final consequence was a bit lacking, we couldn’t really keep up the intensity,” the coach continued. Overall, however, the Westphalians showed a committed performance against the higher-ranked East Westphalians. In the first half, Lemgo got off to a better start after four goalless minutes, but ASV played their way into the game and took the lead 3:2 thanks to a good defensive performance. The 6:7 from the 14th minute should be the last TBV lead for a long time. With a well deserved 14:13 lead for the ASV we went into the break.

In the second half, the Westphalians went even further: Substitute Marcos Colodeti saved the first three balls, while Yonatan Dayan, who was strong again, scored in front to make it 16:13, the first three-goal lead for ASV that evening. Lemgo completed his attacks faster overall, Hamm has to invest a lot to score goals. This fact was noticeable in the course of the game. In addition, backcourt Tim Suton was just as outstanding with nine goals at TBV as his goalkeeper Urh Kastelic, who also came on at the break, who ensured that Lemgo ultimately won the goalkeeper duel. After the 23:23 in the 47th minute, the first division team scored four goals in a row. Although the ASV tried to the end, it didn’t get any closer than 26:29. “We’re fighting our way into the game and defending better in the second half. All in all, we can be satisfied with the test,” said TBV coach Kehrmann.
