Although Asus is not really a big name in the mobile industry, the Taiwanese brand makes excellent phones. We have tested several of them – most recently Asus Zenfone 7 Pro, which made us drop our chin last year.
Therefore, we look forward to testing the two new mobiles that Asus has just launched.
Both Zenfone 8 and Zenfone 8 Flip, as the two new models in the Zenfone 8 series are called, have Android 11, Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 5G Mobile Platform and Samsung AMOLED screens with Delta-E <1 color accuracy. The screens are also HDR10 + certified.
Asus Zenfone 8
This is the smaller model with a 5.9-inch screen in FHD + resolution and an update speed of 120 Hz. The brightness is as high as 1,000 nits.
The pocket-friendly design has been chosen to give users who do not like large mobiles an option that can be easily handled with one hand.
Zenfone 8 is the first Zenfone phone that is IP 68 certified.
Below the screen is a 4000 mAh battery as well as 8 GB or 16 GB LPDDR5 RAM and either 128 GB or 256 GB of storage space.
On the back we find a 64 Mp Sony IMX686 camera with autofocus, dual pixels and optical image stabilization. The ultra-wide-angle camera with 12 MP Sony IMX363 sensor can, among other things, deliver detailed macro recordings, Asus promises.
The front camera has 12 Mp and dual pixel autofocus.
Asus Zenfone 8 Flip
The slightly larger camera phone with 6.7-inch screen and FHD + resolution has to settle for 90 Hz refresh rate.
On the other hand, it has a 5000 mAh battery (which is necessary to power the larger screen) and as the name suggests a unique Flip camera (a motorized flip-up module) with triple camera that can take pictures in both directions. For the same reason, the mobile screen has no hole for a front camera.
The main camera is a Sony IMX686 64 MP wide-angle camera with dual-pixel phase detection for ultra-fast focusing, Quad Bayer technology and enhanced light sensitivity.
A secondary ultra-wide-angle camera is powered by a Sony IMX363 sensor and can handle macro photos at as short a distance as 4 cm. The third camera is an 8 Mp telephoto lens that has 3x optical zoom and a total of up to 12x zoom and seamless transitions between the cameras during shooting.
Zenfone 8 Flip has 8 GB LPDDR5 RAM and 256 GB built-in storage.
