ASUS ROG Phone 6D replaces Qualcomm’s best chipset with the MediaTek version

Jakarta, Gizmologia – After unveiling the best gaming smartphone variant in the country, ASUS has also launched a new smartphone globally in the near future. Still the same for gaming, ROG Phone 6D is here as an alternative option with MediaTek’s best chipset, which uses no Qualcomm chips.

Yes, quite an interesting approach and a first time done by ASUS. For the same laptop series, it is common for this vendor to present the same series in two different processor options, namely Intel and AMD. As for smartphones, Xiaomi has also done the same thing through the Xiaomi 12 series.

More or less, the specifications of the ROG Phone 6D are always the same as the version present in Indonesia. Since it was released later, there are some better specs, but there are also parts made simpler. The design itself is similar, only it appears gray. It comes in two options, namely ROG Phone 6D and 6D Ultimate.

Yes, not using the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip, the ASUS ROG Phone 6D series is powered by MediaTek Dimensity 9000+, which was released last June. Compared to the non + version, there are small improvements in CPU and GPU performance, as well as display support with higher refresh rates. It has octa-core CPU architecture with prime-core up to 3.05 GHz.

MediaTek Dimensity 9000+ also uses 4nm fabrication. However, for the cooling technology, a special AeroActive Portal is presented to the ROG Phone 6D Ultimate. This is a valve that opens when the AeroActive Cooler 6 accessory is connected. Its function? So that the components inside can cool down faster, more effectively to reduce heat.

Another difference is in the type of RAM used, where the ROG Phone 6D series already uses the LPDDR5x type (compared to the regular LPDDR5). But the highest option is “only” 12GB on the ROG Phone 6D and 16GB for the 6D Ultimate, which is not up to 18GB. Even using the Bluetooth 5.3 standard already (vs 5.2).

Both have a 165 Hz screen

The other specs of ROG Phone 6D are always the same. At the front, there’s a large 6.78-inch 1080p AMOLED display with a maximum refresh rate of 165Hz and Gorilla Glass Victus protection. Likewise the camera setup, where the main sensor of the ROG Phone 6D camera is on par with traditional flagships. It uses a 50MP Sony IMX766 sensor, paired with an ultra wide-angle, 5MP 13MP macro.

Also present are IPX4 certification, a 3.5mm audio jack and two USB-C ports. In addition, dual speakers, three microphones and ROG Vision aka an additional screen on the rear body that can be customized. With Android 12, it promises at least two OS updates, plus two years of regular security updates.

This ASUS gaming smartphone is also still equipped with a 6,000mAh battery that supports 65W fast charging. Launched in the UK, the price of the ROG Phone 6D starts at 13 million IDR. There is no information as to whether this MediaTek variant will be present in Indonesia or not.
