For those who prefer smaller phones, maybe just presented Asus Zenfone 9 be a candidate. The mobile phone is certainly not as small as the iPhone Mini, but is in the same relatively flexible size class as the Galaxy S22 and iPhone 13.
The Zenfone 9 offers a 5.92″ Samsung-made AMOLED screen, with 1080 x 2400 pixels, HDR10+, 1100 nits, 120Hz refresh rate and Corning’s latest protective glass Victus. The device has plenty of performance thanks to the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, i.e. the upgraded variant of Qualcomm’s flagship chip.
The construction is IP68-rated (water resistant) and has external dimensions of 146.5 x 68.1 x 9.1 millimeters and a weight of 169 grams. The Zenfone 9 offers dual SIM slots but, like many other phones, lacks support for e-SIM.
Asus lists stereo speakers, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2, USB-C 3.0, 3.5mm jack, and a side-mounted capacitive fingerprint reader. The battery has 4300mAh and can be fast charged over 30W. Charger is included in the package.
The mobile runs Android 12 and Asus guarantees Android updates until at least 2024.
The cameras
The Zenfone 9 offers Sony’s 50MP camera IMX766 with a sensor size of 1/1.56″ and an advanced image stabilization (“6-Axis Hybrid Gimbal Stabilizer”). It sits next to a 12MP super wide-angle camera, which has a 113-degree field of view and can also be used for close-ups down to 4cm.
The phone can record 8K video and also the front camera has a resolution of 12MP. All three image sensors come from Sony.
Price and availability
Asus Zenfone 9 will be available on August 14. The model with 8GB RAM and 128GB storage costs SEK 8,499. Those who want 256GB storage must pay SEK 8,999, while the maxed-out model with 16GB RAM and 256GB storage costs SEK 9,499.
The memories are of the LPDDR5 and UFS 3.1 types, respectively. Asus has a seemingly generous offer where a Chromebook is included with the purchase of a Zenfone 9, until August 14. The Chromebook should have a value of SEK 4,890 and has the model number CM3000DVA-HT0030.
