Asus does away with cable clutter with connectors on the back

Achieving neat cable routing can be a challenge even for experienced computer builders, especially with more complicated projects that require more cables. One possible solution that motherboard manufacturers have come up with is to hide the cables by moving the connectors to the back of the motherboard. Gigabyte calls its edition Stealth and Asus presented last year with the project DIY-APEan idea that is now turning into reality.

Asus launches TUF Gaming B760M-BTF Wifi D4, a Micro ATX model with socket LGA 1700 and support for DDR4 memory. The motherboard is almost completely devoid of connectors on the front and only places for components such as expansion cards, storage and primary memory remain. Considerably more happens instead on the back of the motherboard, where the usual connectors for, among other things, power supply, USB and fan connectors peek out.

The motherboard’s unusual design can hide most of the cables, and Asus believes that the arrangement should facilitate cable routing for beginners. Something that might not help newbies is the big chassis compatibility question marks that come with the newcomer. Asus announces that only certain chassis can accommodate the motherboard, but a list of these is not available at this time.

Asus TUF Gaming B760M-BTF Wifi D4 has not yet appeared in Swedish trade, and no pricing has been communicated by Asus. A possible clue could be the motherboard’s sibling with connectors in the usual place, which at the time of writing lands around 2,500 kroner.
